First Let's Look At Doing A Conversion Manually Before Using The Calculator
Below are the rules that define a Improper Fraction.
 An Improper Fraction has a numerator that is greater or equal to
in value than its denominator.
 Most importantly, the fraction denominator can not be zero.
Division by zero is undefined!
So how do we convert a Improper Fraction like ^{48}/_{5}
to a Mixed Number? Follow these simple steps:
Computation
Comment
48 ÷ 5 = 9.333333333333...

Compute the Whole Number part of of mixed number: 9.
Divide Improper Fractions's
numerator by its denominator. The whole number is the part we need.

5 × 9 = 45
48 − 45 = 3

Compute the whole number remainer of the division: 3. This will be the numerator of the fractional part of the mixed number.
Multiply the Whole Number part of the division (9) by the denominator of the Improper Fraction (5),
and subtract it from Improper Fractions denominator (48).
This is the numerator of the fractional part of the
mixed number.

9 ^{3}/_{5}

Here is the Mixed Number format: Quotient + (Reminder ÷ Denominator).

$\frac{\mathrm{Numerator}}{\mathrm{Denominator}}\hspace{0.5em}=\hspace{0.5em}\text{Quotient +}\frac{\mathrm{Reminder}}{\mathrm{Denominator}}$
$$
Example: ^{48}/_{5} = 9^{3}/_{5}
